Uqnatu showed their Spring 2022 collection, Desert Passage, at the Fashion Week Brooklyn × Made in NYC Runway Show. Inspired by founder Laura Foos'work as a photographer on excavations in Jordan, Turkey, Syria and Egypt in the 80s and 90s, Desert Passage is an ode to open sky, endless vistas, and unfamiliar territory.
The Desert Passage collection was presented in collaboration with Bronx-based Samantha Verrone, who utilizes logwood and rust to prepare dip dye
fabrics, using leftover coffee in spots to increase tannic acid and shift color.
And UQNATU's garments were worn alongside jewelry pieces made by Brooklyn-based Sandrine B. Jewelry, whose bespoke silver jewelry is inspired by her childhood in Corsica, France and objects collected during her travels.
The trio of designers share a deep appreciation for ecology, the natural world, and endemic ways of being.
