Inspired by Nature, Crafted with Purpose: The Marquise Ring

An exploration of artistry, responsible sourcing, and the beauty of slow jewelry.

For this year’s Pure Earth Pure Gold Auction, I wanted to create a piece that would bring together my love of nature, traditional craftsmanship, and commitment to responsible jewelry making.

The result is The Marquise Ring, a design inspired by the exquisite nature-inspired jewelry and drawings of René Lalique, whose work beautifully captures the delicate forms and movement of the natural world.

From Sketch to Creation

The design began with sketches exploring the relationship between a gemstone and the organic forms surrounding it.

At the center of the ring sits a faceted marquise-cut Swiss blue topaz, embraced by gently sculpted foliage. The leaves appear to grow naturally around the stone, creating a sense of movement and an organic yet regal presence.

Handcrafted in New York City in 14K Fairmined yellow gold, the ring reflects my fascination with preserving nature’s intricate beauty through traditional jewelry-making techniques.

The gold was generously donated by Hoover & Strong in support of the auction.

The Beauty of Responsible Jewelry

As a founding member of the Better Jewelry Project and a longtime supporter of Pure Earth, I believe that how jewelry is made is just as important as its beauty.

Choosing Fairmined gold reflects a commitment to supporting responsible artisanal and small-scale mining practices, improving working conditions, and reducing environmental harm.

For me, slow fashion is about creating thoughtfully, valuing craftsmanship, and making pieces that are meant to be cherished for generations.
